Applying to the Center for Scholarly English is uncomplicated. Contact us to receive an Application Form, and information on dates and costs. We will send these to you by mail, or as an e-mail attachment if you prefer. 

Eligible scholars are those who have received a terminal degree in their field, and who are engaged in research or teaching. Independent scholars with no institutional affiliation are also eligible.

We recommend that scholars secure the financial support of their home and host institutions as they apply.  The Center can occasionally match the support provided by our institutional partners.

Scholars with a J visa can arrive up to one month before taking up their visiting appointment. No additional visa is necessary to study at the Center during this month. Likewise, regional scholars who have already begun a visiting program may under certain circumstances study at the Center without applying for an additional visa. Currently, scholars entering the country for the sole purpose of studying at the Center, or who plan to study for more than one month here previous to taking up a visiting appointment, will need to apply for an F-1 student visa.
